Vodafone NZ provides free data to customers impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle

Vodafone NZ is providing free data to all customers impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle in order to help them stay connected in the aftermath of the emergency. “Our hearts go out to the people impacted by this terrible event. We know how vital connectivity is for our customers and their whānau,” says CEO Jason Paris, “As more of the communications network comes online, we hope this free data helps our customers get the information they need and to contact their loved ones.”

Prepay customers have had 100GB of free data automatically loaded onto their accounts which is available to use now, for 7 days. For customers with an ‘on account’ plan and for enterprise customers, data caps and speed restrictions have been removed (where the network allows) to provide free unlimited data for 7 days.

This also allows customers to connect another device like a tablet or laptop through their mobile (called ‘hot spotting’).

Customers do not need to do anything to activate the free data.

Commenting on the 24/7 efforts to restore network services, he said: “Teams from Vodafone, Spark, 2Degrees and Chorus as well as others in the telecommunications industry, have been collectively working non-stop to get cell sites back up and running following the devastating impact of Cyclone Gabrielle. We’ve successfully restored coverage to large parts of Northland, Coromandel, Napier, and Gisborne – although there are areas still to be connected and we won’t stop until we have everything back up. If you need support, we are standing by to help you, please make contact”.
