“Firm, fair and fun” are the three core leadership principles that drive Vodafone NZ’s Chief Information Officer (CIO), Andrew Haddad, and set him up for success in the 2021 CIO of the Year awards, run by IDG.

Commenting on the win, Andrew said: “I’m humbled to be named CIO of the Year and want to recognise the work of my entire team in helping innovate and improve for our customers. We’re focused on transforming to offer our customers a remarkable technology experience, and the IT systems and processes behind the scenes make a massive difference to our digital transformation.

“I also want to acknowledge the other two finalists, Phil Coster from Mitre 10 and Robert Lockerd from the New Zealand Parliament, and the work put in by everyone across the IT industry to ensure New Zealanders have access to great tech services.”

As noted on the CIO Awards website: “Under Haddad’s leadership, despite the global pandemic, Vodafone's digital transformation has been thriving. As a result, the organisation has substantially improved IT stability to the best performance the organisation has seen in over three years, despite minimal capital investment.

“The power of data, collected over the years, and data-driven insights have become Haddad’s main asset in achieving such extraordinary results across the company, by improving, optimising, and stabilising business processes and designs.

“A strong team culture is one of the key pillars of Haddad’s approach and a big contributor to the successful changes that Haddad has led since he joined Vodafone. He believes people is one of the most critical assets of a successful organisation, where is an environment of “Freedom withing Framework” creates the best possible outcomes.”
